Matchstick Coffee Roasters
Coffee: Calderon Castillo Family, Costa Rica
Region: Finca La Casa, Tarrazu
Cultivar: Caturra, Catuai
Brew Method: Chemex coffee maker, poured to order through a lazer etched Kone filter.
I entered the cafe to the musical stylings of David Bowie's Young Americans being played through a Bose speaker system. Immediately the atmosphere appeared fresh and comfortable. Great big south facing windows welcomed lots of sunlight into the cafe, illuminating the stylishly decorated interior.
My confidante and I were greeted by Matchstick's very friendly owners, who suggested we should try a cup of coffee expertly prepared in one of their Chemex coffee makers. We decided on the Costa Rican single origin bean which was ground to order and extracted through a lazer etched metal Kone filter.
The result was a delightful cup of coffee. The brewed coffee had a roasty aroma. It tasted of warm sugar and toasted nuts while maintaining a medium to light body with medium acidity. Each sip left me with a deliciously buttery finish.

Elysian Coffee
Coffee:
Elysian's own single origin Rwandan Espresso
Brew Method: Synesso Espresso Machine
Entering the cafe off of busy Broadway Avenue, I was welcomed with a very modern feel. Dark wood and rich earthy colours warmed the eye, while modern beats played at a subdued volume over this cafe's Bose system.

Ordering an espresso, I received a magnificently extracted double shot of Elysian's Rwandan single origin bean. After noting a deliciously fruity aroma, the first sip of espresso revealed a super sweet flavour with really full body. Each sip contained a hint of fruitiness which quickly dissipated into a long creme brulee finish. To wash it down I was able to help myself to complimentary sparkling or still water.

Revolver Coffee
Coffee:
Red Brick Espresso (50% Sertao Brazil, 50% Samaniego Colombia) Just imported from London, England.
Brew Method: Espresso
The long, narrow cafe was crowded and noisy... in a good way. An exposed brick wall provided the backdrop for the all-male barista staff. While the off-white opposite wall was adorned by a map of the world laid out in nails.
We were recommended to try the Red Brick Espresso which had just been brought back from London by one of Revolver's Baristas; We were assured it was delicious and only available for a very limited period. Retiring to a bar at the rear of the cafe, we settled in to enjoy our espresso amidst a selection of Oscar Wilde works, and photo books of famous coffee drinkers.
The espresso had mildly sweet aroma. It was much lighter in body than Elysian's espresso, and not as intensely sweet tasting. It was very clean espresso with mild acidity, hints of grape, and a short finish.
